POST Professional Certificate Program

The Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center supports the POST Professional Certificate Program. POST certificates are awarded to sworn peace officers, public safety dispatchers, deputy coroners and record supervisors. The standards for each of these categories are different.

POST certificates are awarded to sworn peace officers that meet or exceed the experience, education and training requirements prescribed by POST as outlined in the POST Administrative Manual. Sworn peace officers are capable of attaining six different POST certificates. These include the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, Management and Executive certificates. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department awards Basic certificates after a deputy sheriff has completed a POST approved academy and has successfully passed an 18-month probationary employment period.

Public safety dispatchers, deputy coroners and record supervisors must also meet or exceed the guidelines for POST certificates as outlined in the POST Administrative Manual. These certificates are typically awarded after the employee has attended POST approved training, successfully completed a probationary employment period and/or has been working at a prescribed job classification for a determined amount of time.

For more information on POST certificates contact your agency's training liaison or go to the POST web site www.post.ca.gov
